Default Need Help Installing AMP

Hello,

i am having problems finding my soution, I just Bought 2 Alpine Type R's and have a Legacy AMP (700 AMP), The car i have is an 2006 Honda Accord Ex-V6 with navi, the problem i am having is where to get a connection to go into my amp for the power and signal, do i splice the back speaker cable's, or what would i do? I also see an extra connector hanging in the trunk from the cable that connects the DVD-ROM, im hoping this is an Auxilary Port which i think would make things easier. Can some one help me on how to Get my amp hooked up?

Thanks For the Help,
Arun

I am not sure if the factory decks have a preout for the RCA wires to go in. If not, you will need a something to get the signal from.

Line Output Converter
This will allow the amp to get a signal from the deck. It will get its signal from the rear speaker wires. You will splice the wires from the rear speakers to the LOC. From the LOC, you need a set of RCA wires to go to the amp.

As for power, you will need to run a power wire from the battery to the amp. Make sure to put an inline fuse within 18" from the battery. Run that wire into a hole in the firewall into the cabin. From the cabin, lay out the wires under the carpet and run it into the trunk.

Ground your amp with the same gauge wire as the power wire. 8 or 4 gauge most likely. You want the ground wire as short as possible. And ground it to the chassis on a solid bare metal surface.

Welcome to HAN. If you are unsure about anything, ask.

the stock head unit does not have amp pre outs.

and the aux port wont help you power your amp.

for power and stuff.....
-pull power wire from battery to the trunk.... youll ahve to snake it through the cabin.
-ground amp to bare metal in trunk using the same gauge wire
-pull remote wire from stock head unit to the amp.

for audio.... you will need to get line output converters to convert high to low level audio that your amp can handle... you can then splice those into the head unit or rear speakers.

edit: too slow h:
edit2: we posted the same link

well i did everything you guys said, except couldnt find a hole throught the cabin, so we went plan B which is outside the car. We gut power and ground hooked and spliced the wire's that needed to be spliced, then when time came to turn it on, the woofers didnt work....im thinking it might have been because we dont have a remote wire hooked up?...am i right?....aslo on the converter it didnt have a ground output that was in rca Form, so we couldnt hook that up either.

All Help Would be appreciated.

If you dont have a remote wire hooked onto the amp, the amp is not going to turn on. The remote wire is the "turn-on" wire. When the deck turns on, the signal from the remote wire goes to the amp to tell it to turn on. Same with turning off. I dont believe you need to ground the LOC.

So how did you hook the power wires up?

i hooked up the wires from underneath the car starting from where the donut is, because there was already a hole and went across, voiding exhaust and all. So how can i solve my remote wire problem without opening the HU.

The best way is to hook the remote wire to the HU. There are other ways though. You can hook the remote wire up to any other source that turns on when the ignition is on. So when you turn the key, the amp turns on regardless of if the HU is on.

OR

You can hook the remote wire up to a constant power, like right up to the battery. Then put a switch to the wire. So the only way for you to turn the amp on is by flipping a switch. BUT, if you forget to flip the switch off when you leave the car...the amp will continue to run.

Well, i hooked the remote wire to the battery, and got it installed and when i turned it on the bass wasnt pounding like it should be....Im thinking the line out converter isnt doing well, so im gonna give up and let the pros install it, they can probaly install it straight to the factory radio and i will get the pounding at the max....

Thankz for the help bros, i might have failed but i have found a new home at honda-acura.net!!
