throttle position sensor
Have a 97 Honda Civic Dx Coupe check engine light on code was for TPS had it replaced and light came on again still same problem car runs fine but wont idle down on cold starts until its been driven. Needs advice could it be a bad part or not calibrated right please let me know.
It's easy to do and worth trying, for sure. It'll only cost you a couple bucks. Just take the intake plumbing off of the throttle body, and clean all the bits that look dirty. Use soft materials - shop rags work just fine. I prefer to use brake parts cleaner unless it's really, really gunked up. Throttle body cleaner is super harsh stuff, and not good Kodi nox for plastics and rubbers (neither is brake parts cleaner, but it's much less intense).

It works more like a voltage divider. Most TPS are 3-wire; power, ground and feedback. The resistive element is connected to Vcc on one side (typically +5V) and ground on the other. The voltage along the resistive element will drop as you approach the ground side. So the voltage read at the wiper will drop as it approaches the ground side.
