Default new to honduh (lol) building first hybrid

i'm a long time toyota guy. i myself drive a 76 celica with a 22r (2.4) soon to havea ported and polished 20R head installed, with various engine mods. right now i'm running 14.4 hopefully with the head and new rearend i'll hit 14 flat. but anyway i'm looking to get a honda for cheap transportation and a little more reliable and it seems that this forum's memeber are more into real mods than exhuast and the electric turbo on ebaylol.

to the point. i'm looking to build a hybrid, must be twincam, variable valve timing doesnt matter, i'd actually prefer not to have it.

which is the best flowing of the readily available heads? i'm not goign to buy a type R head there just to damn expencive.

so far i'm looking at a b18 or b20 block and possibly a GSR head. also what kinda computers are you guys running, i'd like to put redline somewhere around 8500 or higher if possible i'd be going into heavy modifications with the head. also what kinda tranny's are you all using, i'll be putting out well over 200 hp, maybee 160 lbs of torque. also what kinda CV's do the guys with high hp use? will integra CV's hold? not used to the cruddy honda CV's... mr2 cv's are good for like 500 lb ft of torque, even with slicks

i thought the b16a head had a better flow rate than the gsr head? i'm sure if you can do a google search and type in b16a and flow rate you'll find some sites that have some graphs for these heads

instead of a plain civic platform, maybe think of a civic CRX, lightweight and very simple to turn into a decent economy car that packs a punch, had to throw in my 2 cents

Just for reference, any B18C head or B16 head is going to have VTEC. If you'd prefer not to have VTEC, you need a B18a/b or B20b/z head.

Ok, here's where I'm starting to get a little confused by what you're after. I'll explain in a min.

The B18C head is from a GSR. Also, if you want supreme reliability, you'd be better to have the stock LS [B18a or b] head ported, same with the B20.
also what kinda computers are you guys running, i'd like to put redline somewhere around 8500 or higher if possible i'd be going into heavy modifications with the head.
Alright, right here I'm going to have to say that with those kinds of goals for a daily driver, I will not suggest anything less than a standalone managment system. I really like AEM's EMS, pricey, but very nice. You'll also need dyno time [understatment] to get a frankenstein build close to tune since Honda never intended for such and engine to begin with. Also to handle that high of a redline, you may want to look into putting some bits in the lower end, like rods [eagle or something comparable] and rod bolts from ARP if you plan on hitting that redline on a frequent basis. The lower end will hold together for it, but again, it wasn't designed for it so it's life will be shorter.
also what kinda tranny's are you all using, i'll be putting out well over 200 hp, maybee 160 lbs of torque.
Any B-series tranny in decent shape will hold at least that much power. I know several guys running turbo setups making much more power that don't have problems, but you should definately look into having some sort of LSD in the setup.
also what kinda CV's do the guys with high hp use? will integra CV's hold? not used to the cruddy honda CV's... mr2 cv's are good for like 500 lb ft of torque, even with slicks
Whatever hybrid axles you need should be capable of holding that kind of power, but if you're really worried about it, head over toDriveShaftShop. They're pricey, but again, I know several people using them that swear by their axles.

well for the "stock" heads, type R is the best.
what you can do is get a gsr head, have it ported, and buy an aftermarket intake manifold (like skunk2, edelbrock, etc)

you'll prolly have some reliability issues w/ ls/vtec or b20/vtec if you want to go past 8400 rpm. i'd say stick w/ the gsr block/head combo, rod ratio is definately better there coz it looks like you'll be running some really aggressive cams.
if you want to go all out on the ecm, get the Aem ems or hondata... pricey
tranny, i have a type R tranny w/ lsd.. my 60 fts are better compared to my old gsr setup. also, what kind of gearing do you prefer, short/long? they differ.

Well... at least u got that right... I'm just getting this vibe from this thread that's "my Toyota is better than your Honda"

I dunno... seems like it's just me.

Axles wear out... I don't care what those MR2 axles are made of, they'll still wear out on a stock motor... that's why Advance sells them.

As far as the motor is concerned, there's a lot of aftermarket parts for both DOHC VTEC and non-VTEC B-series... I'd go with VTEC tho.
I'd take a b16a head, P&P, ITR valvesprings (or better ones if u choose) and if u want cheap u can do ITR or CTR cams... Or expensive, if you're going N/A I like Skunk2 but there are others out there.
If you're trying to make a lot of power, B-series sleeves suck. definitely good for sub-300hp tho.
