Default My check engine light came on but went off.

94 Civic EX

I was driving down the highway this morning and my check engine light came on. it stayed on until I hit a gas station, where I turned the car off to fill up. When I restarted the car the light was off.

As far as I know if there was a problem the comp would have stored it in memory right? Anything I should check? Where is the LED that gives me the error codes anyways?

Thanks

well if the light doesnt stay on, then there will be no codes to check, I have heard of lights coming on for no apparent reason then turning off, could be just a fluke thing.... if it does come on and stay on then you can pull the check engine code by jumping the connecter which is down near the passenger side door in that little compartment, unplug the connecter which has two ports and stick a paperclip in both ports then turn the car's ignition back on and the check light will blink however many times for which code the computer is showing, I dont know which codes are which for your car but you can find em on the net by doing an engine search under like "94 honda trouble codes" or something to that effect......

If the light stays on, you can pull the code by shorting the service connectors and counting the number of times the MIL flashes. If the light is no longer on, the code that was thrown is stored in the ECM,a dn you need a scan tool to retrieve those codes. The ECM stores every code that is thrown.

Mine did the same thing on an 95 Accord EX yesterday. I only got the code 22. Can someone tell me what that means in english? The technobabble was something was messed up in the Variable Valve Timing & Valve Lift Electronic Control Pressure Switch (VTEC Pressure Switch)...whatever that is. The other thing I was wondering, is this a serious problem that needs looked at or can it wait. I have to make a 6 hr trip on friday and need to know if I need to get my car fixed before it.

Wow, this is a thread from the past.
Well it was my experience that it would be ok to wait. I drove around like that for a while. What I ended up doing was pulling the VTEC solinoid plug (or something like that) and sprayed it with a shot of electronics cleaner I have here (used on airplane electronics). I then reset the ECU and it hasnt come back since.

Good luck
