Idle question
My 93 del sol with the 1.6 d16z6 engine is idling funny like for instance when i'm not putting a load on the engine the idle raises to 1500 rpm and then drops back down to about 700 rpm and reapeats this over and over i was wondering if it could be the throttle possitioning sensor but i'm not sure.
I took it to a mechanics shop and they told me that i needed an idle air control motor to even tell what is wrong with the idle but i can't see anything missing from the intake manifold at all. i don't know if the idle control motor is an external part or what.
Any Ideas? thanks

There is no motor for the IAC its one unit that isn't even electronically connected. Its bolted on the plenium by two 10mm bolts but anyways thats besides the point. The guy up-top is right its your cooling system. It could just be that your radiator needs coolant so just pop the cap on the radiator open and fill it to the neck of the radiator, then squeeze the upper radiator hose to get the rest of the air out of the radiator, and just keep refilling and pushing the hose till it won't release anymore air to take in the coolant. Put the cap back on and start it. Now as far as why your losing coolant??? Well Most likely one of the thermo-valve hoses or EACV hoses, if you hit any hellatious dips or speed bumps lately then it could be a crack on the bottom of your radiator (that is if your car is lowered). The worst it could be is your water pump leaking or the lower radiator hose that hooks from the thermostat housing to the block those two would be costly or just down right a payne in the ass. Anyways goodluck you wont have that high-revving experience anymore P.S. man I hate when I hear that LOL.
I had a very similar problem with my 98 civic hb. what it actually turned out to be was the iac. a temporary fix is to take this completly off the intake manifold and clean it with carb cleaner ect and also make sure there isnt any excessive buildup preventing this things internals from spinning. anyways be careful taking it off because there are two coolent lines running through it and if the cars been running you will get burned.
