isnt it harder to get JDM engines? and isnt harder to get smogged or somthing?? the b16a is just the SI engine right? so i would want the jdm for the extra HP... but i agree if i could get the engine quicker like right now... i have around 1500 to spend on the engine, but i think if i save a lttle more i will have double that for the b18c

Default What's up?

It's actually usually easier to get JDM engines than it is USDM. Depending on your location, you can have problems with getting them to pass inspection. The general rule is, if all the US emissions equipment is hooked up and it will pass a sniffer test, you'll be fine (and JDM engines will with the right stuff hooked up). I would strong recommend you contact the garage you'll take your car to for the test before you do the swap and make sure they won't give you a hassle about it. Make sure you can legally drive your car with the new engine before you buy it, save yourself some headaches. Or you can just move to where I live in PA and not have emissions testing.

The B16A is a good motor, but I'd recommend you save up and go for the B18C1. Seeya.

3300.00 Damn thats hella much for one of those. Up here in northern cali there is a junkyard in my town selling the FULL swap for 2500.00. I have a friend that is goin to an auction and buying me a full 97 GSR for about 2800.00.

Im goin for the same thing you are, so let me know how everything goes with your swap...... its goin to be a while because I want to make sure I have everything before I start, so I can bust it out in a weekend. Good Luck

I am up past san fran. and no that doesn't include the install. Is that in your price of 3300.00? It is everything needed for the swap i.e., motor, tranny, wiring harness, ecu, axels, shift linkage, and I think I've heard of someone getting the full exhaust system. What is included with your full swap?

IMO if you plan on doing more stuff down the road to teh motor then go with a B-series. If your plans just inlcude wanting more speed and are not worried about CARB legality then the 92-95 Turbo kit will be your best bet.

Carb legal shmeagal :fawk: The cop won't know the difference if it's on a single cam, but if you go to smog they will.

Think of it this way a turbo would be a great way to go but after installing a turbo kit on a SOHC motor the next greater step would basically be building the motor however if u put a b18c swap in you would be faster than a turboed d16 at 6 or 7 pounds of boost. One of my friends has a 99 civic with a greddy kit with only like 40,000 miles and my other friend has a 92 civic vx with about 150,000 miles and beat his car since he has had 50,000 on the motor and they raced and the 92 civic kick his ass. The 99 civic pull untill my friend in the 92 civic hit 2end gear and then the race was over. So I would think of it this way the b18c will give you a better base to start from and then u could turbo it and it would be even faster. Then when u want to run higher boost you could build the b18c and make it so the a turboed sohc could never even get close to u. But ever great once in a while u might run into a car with a Sohc that might give u a run for u money but I highly dubt that will happen a lot

So the 92 Civic VX had a B18C1 swap? Also remember that the VX hatch is one of the, if not the lightest civic. Probably about a 300lb difference in the cars or so. Also what mods did each car have? Just curious.

umm, actually i have heard that they can run your VIN and it will tell what the stock motor was. And most cops that would be worried about whats under the hood i would assume know thats stock and whats not. just my 2 cents

during smog, they do run the engine vin number, and sadly, no jdm vin number will ever pass in cali....
