ABS pump question!
Right, i think abs pump has gone on my b16a2 civic. Is it a belt driven pump or electric pump? how do i change it?
Just to confirm its the ABS pump, when i start the engine the abs light stays on and it makes a MMMMM noise. Sometimes the ABS light goes off, but it make this MMMMM noise like 3 or 4 times.
Is there a possibilty that its the ABS pump relay???
Thanx for any help!

Electric pump, but they're not all the same depending on what year. Just B16A2 doesn't say what it is. The pump motor running when you start up, sounds like the older system (up to '96 or so).
You can pull error codes from the ABS system just like from the ECU. After you jumper the SCS connector, watch the ABS light flashing.
On then off, this isn't the code yet.
Short flashes for first digit.
short pause.
Short flashes for 2nd digit.
Long pause.
Next code or repeat the same code.
Etc...

Sorry, i mite be being dumb here but i dont know were the SCS connector is or what it looks like? also when you say the abs light flashes, do you mean the one on the clocks (speedometer)?
Also were is the pump situated? is it hard to remove?

ABS pump is #7, but I'm not really sure where it is?? Right front corner of engine compartment? Have someone start the car while you listen for it under the bonnet. The hose #10 would connect with the ABS fluid reservoir.
Majestic Honda just has pictures of USDM cars, so I don't know if they move stuff around for UK.
The SCS connector is a 2-wire electrical plug tucked into the right kickpanel, between the glovebox & kickpanel. But with right-hand drive I wonder if they put it over on the passenger side? It's the same connector that you use to read ECU error codes.

Brilliant! thanks for your help, the scs connector is on the passanger side, ive used it in the past to check for faults found on the ECU.
I'll try and find one now then....not going to honda!!! I think ill try the relay first just in case, i should beable to get one for free from the local scrappers. Thanks again. Ste

What 'diagnostics' are you talking about. You jumper the SCS connector with a paperclip & watch the actual ABS lamp flashing on your dashboard...
Check your ABS fuses. There's one that supplies backup power to the ABS so it can maintain it's memory when you turn off the car.
