Default whos running a standalone ecu????

finnally baought the turbo kit with my money from co-op and im going to put it together in a few months im just tryin to find out the best EMS to go with. Alot of people have been telling me to get a chip p28 ecu and tunned. theres a guy who has a shop that whould give me the ecu, maps tune it for around 600$. But others tell me to go with a stand alone system. my friends bro who did my motor swap is helping me put on my turbo, and he know a shit load about standalone and tunning. he has a street legal probe with its stock motor that pushes 400whp and has a best 1/4 mile time of 11.4. but he says if i go stand alone i need to find someone whos got the set up. im running a stock b16 with a t03/04 hybrid turbo. so any info will help.

A chipped ECU can be just as good as a standalone for mild to moderate power applications. For the easy of tuning and lower price, I would recommend a chipped ECU over a standalone for your setup.

If that doesn't help, find a reputable tuner and go with what he is most comfortable with.

If you don't have a specific need for a truly aftermarket ECU, I wouldn't get one.

That being said, I have the AEM PEMS and I really like it.

I would suggest goin with hondata or some standalone, especially when running a boosted setup, because the s200 has a boost option that can read how much boost you are running, and adjust timing and fuel better than a chipped ecu. You said that when you go to the track you were going to run about 12 psi, I wouldnt trust anything but a stand alone with that boost. I have a supercharged civic and hondata, 550 injectors, and a few hours of tuning gave me an extra 20-25 whp. And the best part is that if I make anymore changes I can have it retuned immediately.

whats your defintion of a stand-alone?
To some hondata isn't a stand-alone bacause it runs off of your stock ecu, ther for it's a piggy-back...
I consider it a stand-alone for the simple fact that you can tune almost every aspect that your need...
If you can tune yourself go with uberdata, otherwise go with what your tuner is comfortable with (pays big time to have a trustworthy tuner) and go that route. Not only will you probably have a safer engine you'll probably make more power if your tuner is familiar with your tuing set-up. Granted tuning is pretty much the same, familiarity pays dividends.

I am running a JRSC on a D16 and got all my EM for free from www.pgmfi.org Iam running turboedit but depending on your year you can run uberdata or crome. Only thing you will be out is the injectors (I got my DSM 450s for $50) and a rom chip and socket also aburner if you want to burn the chips yourself.
Look up www.xenocron.com
