frankenstein rpm limiting
im building my 2.3vtec right now. most conserns with this build are the high rpms and the 2.3's inability to withstand it's stresses. the 2.3 limit is 6.5k and the 2.2 limit is 7.8k.
with the ls/vtec's there seems to be no problem revving that motor to factory gsr/si/type r limits from what i've read and heard. excuse my ignorance if im wrong with any of this. anywho, what is the limit of the ls and the crv blocks. is there no issue revving the b20/vtec up there? i haven't heard much since i've been mainly whoring up prelude boards.
so any info is helpful...just bring it.
thanks

LSVtec and CRVtec motors do have problems being revved out past 7500 rpm on a stock block. I assume with an h23vtec setup you will run into similar revvability problems...if you want to go to 7.7 and beyond, you'll need to build the block.

well im having the factory rods shotpeened and the crank, etc is being balanced. new pumps, bearings, etc. would i be able to get away with the factory vtec 7.8k limit with this?
thanks

You'll at least need ARP rod bolts.

I'm building my LsVtec to rev to 9000, all I'm doing is arp rod bolts, shot peening the rods (after polishing them), using a girdle, and balancing the bottom end (to 9500 rpm). I believe the bottom end will hold that, and I'd feel even safer with a CrVtec revving that high (closer to square design)
you believe...but how can one be sure? and as for the arp rod bolts, arp doesn't make them for the 2.3/2.2. who else is there. i already had the honda rod bolts overnighted from california. this will have to do for a lil while. hopefully the balanced bottom will last me two semesters or more.
h series already have girdles..and i dont believe anyone makes an upgraded unit. my rods have just been shotpeened/magnafluxed. and when my bearings and h-balancer bolt gets in it'll all be balanced...didn't know i could specify an rpm to have it balanced to. i don't plan on higher than 8k so do i just tell them that? or should i ask for higher so when i do go to 8k its not pushing the limit of the balancing?????
thanks guys

cars that are over square (like the b16 and F20c) are much more comfortable in high rpm. An oversquare engine is one which has a larger bore than stroke. Square is just that, perfectly square. The K20A is an example of that. Undersquare, like just about every other honda motor is when the stroke is larger than the bore. The standard LsVtec is slightly undersquare @ 81/89, as is the b20 block, but has a better ratio @ 84/89. As for rod-stroke ratio, you are correct about that, but is a different issue. If you had read closely I said I was only building it to rev to 9000, but I'm assuming that if I balance it to 9500 rpm it wont be unbalanced in the 9K range.
just talked to someone that had their's balanced. they mentioned that the actual balancing machine only takes the assembly to about 100rpms. is this correct? is this sufficient for all motors with their varying rev limiting?
