Default Piecing together a Turbo

This will be the first time I will be with a turbo, my friend is a mechanic and he said that if I get all the necessary parts he would be able to put it on for me. Im thinking of using a setup similar to the Greddy Kit. Im thinking about boosting 8 Psi on a stock LS motor with 66k Miles on the Odometer. Please give me some cost effective recommendations on:

1) What brand of turbo? (Im thinking a t3/t4 is a decent size, fast spooling turbo).

2) What intercooler to use, I want the least modification to my bumper as possible to put it on. The intercolor comes with all the neccesary pipings to the turbo correct?

3) Manifold, which turbo header should I get?

4) BOV

5) FMU

6) Injectors

7) Downpipe (Size also, im not familar with downpiping sizes)

8) If there is anything else I am Missing please include it.

1) T3/T4 hybrid is a good choice.
2) I had to do no modifications with the greddy intercooler. It will not come with all the piping. Just the piping to make a kit from non-intercooled to intercooled.
3) A log style manifold that will fit the turbo is fine.
4) I have the Greddy Type-S. A bit too chirpy for me. It was either that or the HKS SSQV. More expensive but worth it.
5) Hondata if you can afford it. FMU's suck but if you are low on cash it is a temporary fix. You will probably also need a MAP bypass to turn the CEL off.
6) 310cc is fine. You may want to go a bit higher if you desire.
7) 2.5" Downpiping is probably good. You also need to make sure it will fit the turbo.
8) Upgraded fuel pump if you so desire. Larger exhaust. Just a little food for thought.

Thanx, for the above info, it is exactly what I was looking for, how much do you think it would run, with the hondata also of course.

too build a kit with decent parts you should be able to do it for about 4500 if you buy everything new at retail.

here is my opinion on what you should do:

1.T3/T04E
2. precisions are the best but spearco's are real close and a good price. you will need piping most is pretty easy to find for sale on hondatech
3. Inline pro hands down the best out there and you can even retain AC
4. anything that will hold the boost you plan to run
5.I had a cartech FMU that is adjustable like a fuel presure regulator. I went hondata and have it just laying here if you want to buy it.
6. injectors all depends on how you will control them. if you go with a FMU I would get 450's and an afc and a missing link( I actually have all those parts laying here now that I think about it) I ran 15psi on that set up and ran well. also go with a 255lph fuel pump.
7. any 2.5" DP will work fine but I recommend the inline pro
8. if you go hondata get some bigger injectors like 550's or 660's cause you can dial them back with the hondata far enough and will have enough fuel for later mods. on the set up with the FMU I ran you can run a lot more boost than 6-8 psi... on a good tune LS's in good shape will hold about 14psi or so...12psi on 93 octane pump gas shouldn't be an issue at all.

everything depends on the power you want to make and how much you want to spend.

4,500, maybe I should just get a Rev Hard or a Greddy Kit and upgrade later on? The Rev Hard kit comes with everything, even intercooler. Is the Rev Hard kit pretty reliable?

I have heard good things about the FMAX kit if you ditch the crappy FMU they give you and get hondata. I wouldn't know since I have the Greddy kit because I have to deal with smog.

I forgot about the oil lines and flanges. Those are a little important.

The powe output I am looking for is from 200-240 to the wheel, but I think around 200 because im only gonna be boosting 7-9 (stock motor). Price I want to spend is 3000 Max.

drag manifolds are junk and tend to creep. revhard is the best bet. the Fmax is junk(just a bunch of bandaids) the XS kit is nice but the turbo is way small and same with the TSI kit. Greddy kit also will get you to your power goals pretty easily
