Default CRV Info

Hi, can someone set me straight on CRV engines?

I know they're B20s. I also know there are two different B20s (Z or C or something?). What are they, and what horsepower and torque do they make? I also know one of them will fit into a Civic, and the other won't (TB is too high). Which is which?

Thanks.

97-98 B20's are B20B's, which are rated at 126hp at the flywheel and 133ft-lbs of torque. They have that long giraffe intake manifold that won't fit under your hood.

99-00 B20's are B20Z's, and are rated at 146hp and 133ft-lbs. These have a funky resonator thing on top of the intake manifold, but it should clear your hood.

Most B20's that are available nowadays are JDM B20B's, so most people just swap an LS intake manifold on them, or ditch the head entirely and use a VTEC head.

Wow, complete with pictures and all. Awesome, thanks.

What accounts for the power difference between the two? Obviously there's some difference in the intake manifold. Is the head the same on the B and Z? LS manifolds are pretty cheap .. If I were to put an LS manifold on a 97-98, what sort of power would it make? The torque is nice, but 126hp isn't exactly a huge upgrade from my Y8.

the Crv is a great engine platform..especially if you can get ahold of a GSR or SI head...the reason why i say this..is that if you get an SI engine..complete swap...for $2500...and you pick a B20z or JDM B20...for about $800-$1000..and for another $500 or so have the SI head assembly put on the CRV block..you can get roughly 180 - 190hp and gobs of torque...this is whats commonly called a CRV tech...its a sick engine...check out more info if @...http://www.crvtec.com/ you will find just about everything you need to know about this kind of swap...

tisk tisk tisk. I properly built CrVtec will cost much more than $4000. You don't need all the goodies, but you probably wont make wicked power without them. The power difference comes from the higher compression of the B20Z and the different intake manifold.
