if you got stock rims with hole where the nut is...put them back on...lower the car...with the socket on there, place a long pipe on wrench and step on it to get it loose, not off but just loose...thats how i did it

edit: don't forget to tap part of the nut out of that notch, dont know what its called but you should see it

The hub nut can be taken off with either a breaker bar or an impact gun. I used an impact gun....that was a bliss.

For the shifter linkage pin...I know your pain. I had a lot of trouble with the pin as well. Don't try to hit it in the middle, or the punch will squeeze into it. You probably already noticed this already. Punch the pin along the sides. The punch will inevitably slip a couple of times, but keep at it, it'll eventually come out.

if you dont have to re-use your shift linkage, aka you are doin a B series swap....I find it actually takes less time to just sawzall/cutting wheel the linkage...

do a search for the linkage... I seem to remember a very enlightening conversation about that one. As for the nut, Civicracr's suggestion should do the trick... I find a 3" breaker bar (my chin-up bar h: ) will bust just about any nut I try. (busting nuts :chuckles: :naughty: :rick: hfawk: )

That makes very little sense. Hes still going to need to get the pin out after he pulls the engine so why waste a perfectly good shift linkage.

you need a non taperes punch. What youre using is trying to spread the pin out in the linkage which is why its not moving. what you want is something that pushes on the lip of the pin as stated earlier. an 8mm non taperes punch is the correct tool for this job but I was able to use one of these and hammer it through.

For the axle nut just have some one step on the brakes and use a breaker bar. I had to use a pipe that was about 6 ft. long to get mine off when I first got my hatch cause my impact gun wouldn't even take it off. As for the pin in the shift linkage just use a center punch that is the same diameter as the pin, a hammer and some patience.

Hope that helps.

I've seen a tool made for removing shift linkage pins using a screwdriver and a die grinder. Grind down the tip until it fits inside the pin and the rest is the diameter of the pin. Should pop right out. Otherwise, it is a pain...

a 4 mm socket will fit perfectly to punch the pin out, i've used it twice. for breaking the axle nut loose I had somebody get on the brakes and I used a big breaker bar and got it.
