The hub nut can be taken off with either a breaker bar or an impact gun. I used an impact gun....that was a bliss.

For the shifter linkage pin...I know your pain. I had a lot of trouble with the pin as well. Don't try to hit it in the middle, or the punch will squeeze into it. You probably already noticed this already. Punch the pin along the sides. The punch will inevitably slip a couple of times, but keep at it, it'll eventually come out.
