For the record, I've used EGT's racing 2 strokes [which are far more sensitive to improper A/F ratios than even the most high strung turbo engine] for the better part of a decade.
Awesome, thanks Harry. I knew there was a reason I was going to put it on the #3 runner. h:

Why would a bung be more beneficial if the bolt adapter is properly sealed? I can see where it may cause problems, but is it really that bad?

I went with the Greddy electronic EGT.

Having a bung in there would just make the whole thing more secure against vibration. Depending on the size and weight of the probe, it may be a non-issue. Personally, I would probably fabricate or buy a bung the size I was looking for just so I had the piece of mind that it would be more than strong enough to hold up to street use, but I admittedly can get overly paranoid about street survivability.

I'd feel a bit weird just tapping a hole into a tubular manifold as well. There's just not much material there. Honda sees fit to weld on bungs for O2 sensor(s), I would do the same for an EGT.

I agree, a tubular manifold just won't give you the thread-depth you need for a taper thread fitting to seal properly. Definitely tig it on, just make sure you use a stainless fitting if the manifold is stainless, and stainless alloy welding rod.

I just happen to have a SS rod left over from another project I did so I can use that. I just hope the inner diameter is correct for this. How deep should the probe go into the manifold?

The tip of the probe should be centered in the runner's diameter.
