Default EGT probe install tips?

Obviously I need to check for clearance around where I will be drilling/tapping so that the probe wiring will run correctly and not hit something once everything is installed, but is there anything else I need to know?

I have the bit and the tap. I planned to install it into the #3 runner on the exhaust mani.

Anything else?

Thanks!

Just make sure you keep the filings from the drilling/taping from droping in to your turbo. When I did my diesel pickup, it was a real hassle, but those fillings can really mess things up. if you can disconnect the turbo, it's easy. Otherwise, most suggest you get a magnet (on a string) to drop down the hole to pick up all/most of the fillings.

Cast manifold?

Either way, take your time, back the tap out one turn every four in, keep it lubed, blah blah blah. Standard tap stuff.

How thick is it? Sounds like you'll need to get a bung welded in.

I drilled and tapped my RevHard manifold about 1" from the flange on cylinder 4, it doesn't really matter which cylinder you pick. I did this 3 years ago, no problems yet. The shavings are so minor, they will blow right through the turbine, I coated the tap with grease so most of them stuck to the tap anyways. Don't tap too deep with the NPT tap, this way you won't have to bury the fitting.

If you want to see pics, just click on the link on my sig, the pic is in there..good luck.

You want to have the probe between 3 and 6 inches from the valve for your best readings. A bung would be a good idea on a tubular manifold as well.

Also, nearly all shared plenum hondas have an air bias problem on cylinder 3, NA or forced, so that would be the best cylinder to monitor if you can't monitor them all.

For the record, I've used EGT's racing 2 strokes [which are far more sensitive to improper A/F ratios than even the most high strung turbo engine] for the better part of a decade.
