Default Swapping?

Eh....this might be a n00b thing but me but what the heck.

Anyone on here done a B series swap in there drive way with a couple of buddies in like a day or even weekend?
Also anyone get the engines in/out without a hoist? I'm not rich so can't exactly buy one and to rent one you need a credit card and I don't own one so....what did you guys do to get them engines out?

here at Braille auto Dev..with a couple of guysd on it and all parts needed..we can do a swap starting at lets say 8 am and then just tune it the following morning it can be done..thing is..engine hoist was used..so that might put a small gap inti the time frame.. my .02 cents..

i think it can be done without a hoist. but not safe at all :nono: doing a swap in your own drive way has been done too lol, my dad and i swapped a 350 into a 79 Z28(with a hoist).

I have seen a picture series of a few guys lifting out a D-series engine with no lift, but they used a lift to put the new B-series in. Remember, these engine/trans combos weigh a few hundred pounds and they're basically sitting in a steel bathtub. It's fun enough to get out with a lift, I can't imagine pulling and installing without an lift.

If you have all the parts you need, it can easily get done in a weekend.

Well I've carried a B16 myself before....no tranny on it though. Yes it was heavy but wasn't going far.
Maybe I'll just rent a hoist.

I tried to move a D16Z6 (with complete intake manifold and trans) but couldn't quite get it off the ground.

With two people it's not bad though.

Ha ha, we pulled the D-series out with just 4 guys, but your not lifting a B-series engine that high and lowering it down safely without damaging the engine or giving yourself a hernia. I'll attach a pic.

Actually, Honda engines can be removed from below, and some people swear by this method. You basically unhook everything, leave the top two engine/tranny mounts attached, set the engine down a couple of jacks, something you can roll, lift the car up high enough to clear (a real good jack and a couple of stacked 2x4 might be enough) and slide the engine out. Load the new engine onto your moving platform and slide it back under (insulate the oil pan with something from the jack's sadle). Lower the car down, lift the engine into place and your done. If your in the mood to do some work, drop the tranny off first (you should replace the clutch anyway) and it will make hauling the motor back into place easier. I've always used a hoist when I had to pull an engine, but I've dropped a few trannys off and realized how easy it would be to slide the engine under. Just something to consider.
