b18b into 6g EK hb
Hi guys.
I had finally saved enough to get an 96+ LS swap with labor, when I recently found out I may need more than just the motor/tranny. Can anyone run a list of exactly what MORE I need? I'm just buying a long block from hmotorsonline.com and then using my del Sol VTEC transmission.
Do I need to swap out ECU's? and if so, can I use the del Sol VTEC ecu for the LS? also do I need mounts, don't the engines dump right in? Supposedly I need "SI rear mounts"? what's that? and a intermediate shaft and AC bracket?
damn complicated. Please help thanks a LOT.

Here's a good reference site with info on the mounts you'll need.

I haven't actually bought the parts he listed and tried them on my car but they seem to be the right listings and the site seems trustworthy (I think he actually posts on here sometimes).
You'll also need a set of B-series axels and shift linkage, but I'm guessing you have those with your Del Sol tranny setup. The Del Sol VTEC ECU will also not work. Aside from being designed to control a DOHC VTEC engine, it's also most likely an OBD I ECU ('95 and earlier are OBD I, '96-'98 cars are OBD IIa and '99-'00 are OBD IIb, the ECU plugs are slightly different). You'll need the correct ECU for your car and also for the engine (and OBD I engine won't have the sensors and OBD II ECU needs to be happy).
You mentioned "swap with labor" so I'm assuming your planning to let some shop do your swap. I would definately talk with them and find out what engine they recommend you get. If they say any B18B is fine, consider another shop, there are differences you should know about.

Hey there,
I was in your position 2.5 years ago. I have a 94 Civic CX hatch and once I saved $2k, I went and got the LS swap. It wasn't a bad choice overall, but I do wish I would've had the patience to get the GS-R. If you plan on going the turbo route stick with the LS.
This is just me...but make SURE this is exactly what you want before you make your purchase.
Another 6 months of saving is a world of difference.
