Default Assulting your oil pan

so the problem is that my header DP touches the oil pan. i have a couple of options here...

1- spend the $50 and have the header modified (cut and weld in a spacer)

2- i can beat the crap out of my oil pan. i figure a couple good swift hits with a hammer and a block of wood will do well. i just need to indent a 2" wide section about 1/4 - 1/2 inch in, right on the corner.

any suggestions on beating the oil pan, or is that just plain bad? ive been hearing both ways.

I wouldn't beat the oil pan, then u risk that the ridge u will create will affect the oil movement in the pan.

Fix the downpipe, even if you were to bash in your oilpan, the pipe would still be too close to the oilpan. You don't want to unnecessarily heat your oil...

Some people say that changing the volume of you oil pan (via a big unintentional dent) will cause you to throw a vtec oil pressure code. But I think it's more likely that you're running into oil starvation problems, and that's why vtec oil pressure code gets thrown. In short, bad idea.

Sounds like a cheap, poorly made header. Get a new one. :goodjob:

Default bashing

denting the pan would not change the volume, but would possibly push the oil level up, which could cause the level to be high enough to touch the crankshaft, which in turn could foam up the oil and cause cavitation, which could cause the vtec pressure switch to see less oil pressure..but that's a long shot..
