synthetic oil - how mile/km before change?
Fram X3 is very good. I think it is called Xtended Guard. That is the one I use. It is pretty expensive but it does a pretty good job in my opinion. I haven't use anything else so I don't have any comparison. I do know the oil get cleaned up very quickly.
Does anyone here drive more than 20 miles a week. If so, I don't see how you get all stingy about using synthetic oil. You pay over 20 bucks each time you top off the gas tank. Mobil 1 cost less than that and it protects your engine.
We need to focus on the transmission now because it is a bitch to have a good engine and transmission give out at 100k. It happened to my Mazda 626. I had to sell it because I was in school and didn't have 3k to fix it.

Come on now do we have a bunch of ricer people in here??? Oil still gets dirty and wears down the engine. If your going to want the whole high performance thing you cant change it every 7000 miles. Even with technology today you still should change it at around 3000 miles. I use mobil 1 and a really good filter but even at 2000 miles you can tell that its getting dirty. Plain and simple fact changing your oil every 3000 miles makes a reliable car. People with turbos on these 4 cyl really should take that into consideration b/c theyre already stressing their engine. Honda makes very good cars but 4 cyl can only withstand so much.
The color of the oil has next to nothing to do with how contaminated it is.

Yes you can somewhat tell by looking at the oil. Thats one of the first thing i learned that a mechanic told me and most everone i have meet agrees that you can tell by looking at the oil color. Plus who sends oil in to be tested?
Actually, several people that have posted here regularly in the past have sent oil samples in to independent labs for contaminant testing.
Looking purely at the color of the oil doesn't tell you anything about the oil's properties other than it's color. It's been tested, it's been proven. You and your buddies can agree on whatever you want without the proper facts to back up your assumptions, but it doesn't make them true.

I know a cheapcake who doesn't like changing oil because he thinks it is expensive. He use Walmart SuperTech oil, which cost about 50 cent a quart on a good day. Any way, he actually sent in oil sample to get it tested because he wanted to know how long he can go with this oil. The test cost him 40 bucks and it came back bad because he used the oil for 5k so the oil was beyond useable for anyone who care about their car even just a little bit. He still use it and change it every 4K.
His car is a nice 2003 Civic. I like the new added power it has and the 4-door model is nice looking. Anyway, he has about 20k miles on it due to heavy communiting and the car doesn't really sound good while idle. I still run very good because it is a Honda, but it have been passenger of 1998 Civic and hear less engine noise during high acceleration and stop&go traffic.
