high HP FWD traction is your enemy. with roughly 260-300whp in my car I went 13.0@109mph on street tires and the best 60ft I have ever gotten is a 2.0(2.1 on the 13.0 run) in comparison I ran a 8.5 in the 1/8 that pass @86mph

you still got to remember what your comparing..... a 4 cylinder 1.6, 1.8, or 2.2 can only push out so much TQ and HP compared to a 4.6, 5.0 V6 or V8 engine.

and the power to weight ratio and rwd vs fwd makes a difference......and how you setup your car for launching

i see alot of these people driving sport compacts (and in the begining i refered to the cars that i was talking about as import/sportcompacts) at the track and most of them have horrible launches. for those who race what are some of the launch techniques that you use for getting off of the line as fast as possible? does the type of clutch you use affect and how? what suspension work do you recomend to improve launches? any other info that you can think of? -thanks

launching a fwd car is a lot harder.
right now on my civic i have done a best of a 2.1 60 ft time, i am running 215/40/17, i know a crappy drag size, but i have done best at 20 or so psi, launching at 3500rpm and spinning off the line.
my suspension is adjustable struts and stiff as hell springs with solid urethane mouonts....i want to add traction bars next.

the launch bar is what i have been concidering very much thats a good idea and i think it'll help you 60' times alot. how about a set of slicks just for when you race?

i will blow axles on slicks
right now i have a hodge podge of axle parts runnin, driver side is an integra 90-93 axle, the half shaft is from an accord, and then passenger side is from an 86-89 integra with an accord inner joint.
once i add the traction bars, and stronger axles ill add the slicks.....with that setup i would think sub 1.8 60 fts are possible.
i think it takes moreo work to make a fwd import fast but its fun to me and worth it...

Lol..RWD is just better off the line.. They will have better 60 foots...

More torque equals less HP, more HP equals less torque...even though torque is essential for HP...

My friends stock 99 F-150 runs a 15.6 in the 1/4...but the new ones..with boosted torque run in the 16's...

FWD are better from a rolling start, so from a dead stop, as stated in another topic, the weight distribution causes FWD imports to not launch so well.
