How about brake fluid? Brake & clutch fluid reservoirs have vents, & you don't want to get water in there. When I clean mine, I also watch out for that.

Can someone please make a list of things to watch out for before washing your engine?

Intake
Distributor
Alternator

What else?

I'll be cleaning my engine pretty soon, it's got loads of dirt on it

I don't even know where the distributor and alternator are. Should you also wrap up the blue wires that are on top of the valve cover gasket(if that's the name)? And where is the ABS system?

The blue wires are the spark plug wires. I didn't bother wrapping them up because they are already insulated. I did wrap up the distributor though, which is to the left of the valve cover.

The ABS system is in the right side of the car next to the header. It has all those coils inside of it and I thought that I should wrap that up since it seemed like it the coils were exposed and I didn't want to get water inside.

Where are the vents for the brake fluid? I would like to know so that I cover that up in the future. I basically covered up anything electrical that was exposed and the intake.
