the steering wheel has a little play from left to right sitting still. driving when you let the wheel go it always pulls to the left. i do have a camber kit and just got it aligned a month ago. at the shop my car was lifted you can rock my left front wheel up and down. it makes the wheel tremble and a raa raa raa raa sound that speeds up with the car.

As far as the steering wheel having play left to right, that doesn't indicate a wheel bearing problem. That's either tie-rod(inner or outer), or bushing problem. The sound that speeds up as u go though, is probably a wheel bearing. Mine needs changing too. You have to remove the upper and lower control arms, the tie-rod, axle nut, caliper and rotor, then slide the whole knuckle/hub assembly out. Then get the wheel bearing, and have the old one pressed out, and new one pressed in. U can't remove the bearing by hand, as far as I know, as u may damage the hub assembly. The bearing will run about $50-$80 and pressing it costs about $40-$60.

To check and see if the tie rods and tie rod ends are bad you need to jack the car up first and then on one side at a time grab the wheel firmly and see if you can wiggel it back and forth to see if there is any play in the wheel at the same time pay attention to the tie rod and tie rod end to see if either one of them move if they move then then they are bad. Even though you dont have power steering the rack can still be bad.

A bad wheel bearing would not cause play in the steering, it sounds like it could be bad tie rods and or tie rod ends or a woren out power steering rack. what does the noise sound like?

I didn't think wheel bearings did that.

No, the wheel not being able to turn is a sure sign of a bad bearing, or possibly hub. The bearing keeps the hub, and axle, "floating" so it stays smooth and turns free. If the bearing is bad, and u have problems turning the wheel when the axle nut is tightened(which the axle nut should be VERY tight normally), then replace that bearing, or hub asap. If you've already replaced the bearing, then I also say replace the hub because that can cause wheel bearing failure. Good luck!

ok i haven't got neither of these replaced yet and this is my daily driver until i get the new short block for my 91 eclipse GSX  (which will hopefully be by the end of this month, i cant wait finally something with some speed) what kind of risk am i at right now?? My pregnant wife rides with me in this car but i wont let her drive it b/c of this problem. what might happen if this bearing\hub gets any worse it has been doing this since about Jan. i just never had the $$$ to fix it. How much will the hub be if i need it? how will i know if i need it??
