As far as the steering wheel having play left to right, that doesn't indicate a wheel bearing problem. That's either tie-rod(inner or outer), or bushing problem. The sound that speeds up as u go though, is probably a wheel bearing. Mine needs changing too. You have to remove the upper and lower control arms, the tie-rod, axle nut, caliper and rotor, then slide the whole knuckle/hub assembly out. Then get the wheel bearing, and have the old one pressed out, and new one pressed in. U can't remove the bearing by hand, as far as I know, as u may damage the hub assembly. The bearing will run about $50-$80 and pressing it costs about $40-$60.
