code for radio question?
I have a 2001 CL that had one owner before me (a lease) and after buying the car the dealership gave me all the documentation it had for the car owners manual, spare key etc but one piece missing was the identification card for the radio that gives the code.
Its on its original battery and while its doing ok it turns a little slow and I'm thinking its about time to be considering a new Battery. Understanding that if the car loses power in the battery switch the radio won't work.
I consulted my local Acura dealer and when they did my last oil change they looked but to no success for the sticker. Then I called the dealership the car was originally sold at but they had dumped their 2001 records a month ago and don't have the information any longer.
I'm looking to avoid the labor charge to having the radio taken out to get the serial number. Any ideas. Where should I be looking for that sticker?? Is there any other way to get the code from the vin number perhaps?
Thanks for your ideas!

The only way to get the radio code is to get the serial number. It doesn't require the complete removal of the radio but you need to remove the center console among other things to see what the number is.
I have seen some products out there that plug into your cigarette lighter that keep a low current going through the car so that the radio codes, ECU memory, etc aren't wiped out when the battery is removed. I would search around for one of those and it should give you enough time to swap the batteries out and still spare you the hassle of obtaining the serial number.

I Too, Bought A Cl...but A 98, And When I Replaced The Battery My Radio Wouldnt Work.
All I Did Was Physically Take It Into A Acura Dealership, Showed Them My Registration, Id, And Other Proof Of Ownership And They Just Gave Me A Code.
It Was No Hassle At All So I Dont Understand Why Acura Is Giving You Such A Hard Time.

there not giving me a hard time. I don't have the radio registration card. I've called a couple of dealers and none of hema re aware of being able to do this from the vin. Does someone know something that contradicts this and supports Palaya8ta's idea that they can do this rom the vin?

Another place they hide serial numbers for ur radio is near the glove box.
From the drivers seat, open ur glove box, when opened all the way, look on the left side of the glove box. the dark area. i wish i had a pic to explain.. somtimes its hidden there.
It can NOT be looked up by the vin unless you are at the dealership where it was origionaly sold and they recorded the code in their personal database. Otherwise the radio has to be removed to get the serial number. The s/n is then entered into Acura's dealer web site and acura gives the code.
Playa doesnt know what he is talking about
