i really dont' see any particular reason to ditch the passives of the alpines. You could just run one larger amp for both your mids and highs maybe 100 x 2 or so. Simplifies wiring and crap.

i wanna ditch the passive so that the 3-way electronic crossover isnt only being used on the sub channel...and i'm also kinda goin for looks...i wanna do custom stuff for people so i need it to look good ya know?...and more is better where i live...the extra 100 bucks for that one amp really isnt a big deal to me

You can jsut get a two way x over instead. Use high pass to the components and lowpass to the sub. With a 3 way its just more crap to tune and more possibility i won't soudn the way you want it to. BUt if you really want to go active go for it. Be carefull not to set the x over too low for your tweeter if your going active or no more tweeter.

that may be true, but JL audio amps do have crossovers in them, and thats probably the best I'd buy.

I think JL amps are great, except for one thing.....their power levels are AWEFUL. I think they did their homework. Nicely adjustable crossovers, well placed controls and connections. I can't say I like the RIPS system, but they need some smaller amps. Say a 50x2 or a 75 x 2. It's virtually impossible to run a horn setup with their amps b/c of their stupid selections.

PPI was the best in that respect. The PC class amps had tons of different models from tiny to huge.

the power is bad depending on how you look at it i guess good points: same power whether the car is on or off, or impedence of speakers, clean sounding, well built good x overs. Bad points : will not benfit from 2 ohm speakers, will only give rated power no matter what even if you can give them more voltage or lower the impedence. And as mentioned no smaller ones.
Every amp has good and bad points you just ahve to pick and choose which ones best suit you.
