Default sub or no sub?

i'm at a standstill here... i just had my headunit, sub and amp stolen a few weeks ago... ok no big deal anymore. i dropped my old pioneer unit back in. this was a 450 dollar unit like 4 years ago. so its still pretty damn good. only problem is, there is no sub preout on it. i drove around last night and it was crankin out some pretty good bass thru my pioneer 4-ways. now i listen to alot of metal, no rap really. what do you suggest i do... get a 4 channel amp, run it to all 4 speakers and just call it done? or spend a little more for a new head unit and sub and amp? if i amplify just the speakers can that give me any more bass?

Depends;

What you could do is run a good amp to your interiors make sure the amp has a pre out built in which most high end amps do. This will sastisfy you for the time being. If later you want to listen to a wide range of music you can get a sub and amp and just piggy back of the interior amp. Watch how much power your sending to those 4 ways though with out a cross over if ya over power them you'll blow em.

you can usually get pretty good bass out of 4-ways and if all you listen is rock, then id say a sub wouldnt be needed.

you can get one of those high to low converters and splice it in your rear speakers, then run an amp off of that. it actually works pretty well, we did it to my friend's wrx, because he wanted to keep the stock head unit.

Get a 4 channel amp, amplify the front speakers, and bridge the rear channels to a smaller sub (10" or 12"), and run the rears off your current Pioneer.

I'd die without a sub, no matter what I'm in the mood to listen to (and if it's not polka, country, or death metal, I'm in the mood for it at some point, so that includes my rock phases).
