you can usually get pretty good bass out of 4-ways and if all you listen is rock, then id say a sub wouldnt be needed.

you can get one of those high to low converters and splice it in your rear speakers, then run an amp off of that. it actually works pretty well, we did it to my friend's wrx, because he wanted to keep the stock head unit.
