Default Is this possible?

I want a hard hitting but clean sounding system and so far I have only used sealed boxes for all my setups. Is it possible to have a crisp and clean bass using a ported box? Space is an issue so I think I may go with a single 12 or 15" sub, most likely an Image Dynamics product. Any suggestions or input?

Ported boxes can sound good if designed properly. My first time designing a ported box it took me 3 tries to get it right, so plan on going through some wood. As for ID, I personally think IDQ's sound great in ported boxes, and that is your best bet.

I have an IDQ in a ported box. It sounds great.

The thing with going with a ported box, is like TTT said, is getting it just right. You can indeed acomplish what you want in a ported box. But also remeber that a ported box will be bigger than a sealed box for the same driver.

If you can afford it, (price of woofer and powering it), try out the IDMAX. I would love to have one.

I bet the IDMAX's are nice, but it's overkill for what im trying to accomplish. I just want a clean sounding, moderately powered system. I'm kinda torn between the JL 12W6 and the IDQ12:dunno:

I had a JL 10" w6 and it hit kinda hard. That little sub is nice.

Now I have a 12 JL Audio w7 and ohh man how I loveeeeeee my new sub. Im just waiting for my amp to get back from Alpine. Anyways Yeah Im also looking for a space saving hard hitting system.

Yeah, I've been wanting JL subs for some time now but i'm so damn impatient that I've always just gotten what was affordable at the moment instead of saving up and getting what I really wanted. Either way I go, 12W6 or IDQ12, i'm sure I'll be a happy camper.

The installer who put my alarm in had a EK hatch with a 13W7 in it and that thing hit painfully hard, but they are quite expensive.

rcurley55-If I decide to go w/the IDQ12, I'll definitely hit you up with any questions I may have, being that ur the ID guru and all
