I have an IDQ in a ported box. It sounds great.

The thing with going with a ported box, is like TTT said, is getting it just right. You can indeed acomplish what you want in a ported box. But also remeber that a ported box will be bigger than a sealed box for the same driver.

If you can afford it, (price of woofer and powering it), try out the IDMAX. I would love to have one.
