Subwoofer question
Most of the reason why people have bigger boxes in there car is cause your suppose to have the right amount of cubic inches on the inside of the box to get the best sound out of the sub. My boxes are pretty big and they take about half of the room in my trunk and there heavy........but they sound great. I have two 12's
If you buy a box made for a 10in or 12in then it should sound good cause im sure that the company makes them to the right cubic inch. A custom made box will have to figure out the right amount of cubic in

yea SOME bass will be coming out the rear but the majority is coming from the front of the cone area. since bass is non-directional, sound wise it won't matter if they face front or rear, but there is a larger volume of frequencies coming from the front of the cone since there isn't wood, poly fill, etc to absorb the waves. hence more to reflect & louder volume

I KNOW --- and you are absolutely right --- that bass is non directional and therefore, in theory, a subwoofer can be placed anywhere. So, if I switch my box around to fire the woofers forward into the rear seat, you think because the rear of the box will now be facing the trunk, I wont get that "bass wave" to develop and couple the sound; the subs' cones should be firing toward the open area of the trunk in order to make better bass?
I have a coupe and I have 2 10" subwoofers that I could install. I was thinking of installing them at the side, facing sideways... If I install both, they'd be facing each other for a symmetrical look. Has anyone else done something similar? Or is tehre something fundamentally wrong with this design. I've also considered taking out the spare tire and using that well as part of the enclosure. Because I see everyone with bigass boxes firing backwardss, taking up half the trunk... Or sedans with subs firing through the passthrough (Which i do not have.)

had a few emails asking how the enclosures were made. check here
subwoofer enclosure
i am actually considering upgrading to 15" subs so am selling the two sub/enclosures that i have. they are the Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1's (sell for about $200 each) and are only about 1 month old.
if you are interested, shoot me an email. i am asking $400 for each sub/enclosure, or $700 for both. pick-up available in So Cal, or can be shipped.
here's a picture of the right enclosure:
thx.
