Default Subwoofer question

I'm interested in installing a sub but I don't want a space hogging big ass box in my trunk. I'm not really big into audio but I do want to add some low end punch without being crazy loud. My idea is to install a free air sub directly behind the fold down armrest in the trunk. This will allow the bass to enter the cabin while the armrest is down and the little door that goes into the trunk is open. Will this work? Again I'm only interested in adding some good bass without being the King of Krunk. Any of you audiophiles have any suggestions? Crutchfield sells a Kenwood free air sub that I think would work good. Can I use that with a good amp (suggestion welcome on a amp also) and also use the rear 6x9's? I dont know much about car audio so help me out with some good intel. Thanks!

I'm the same way as you, I don't want to rattle my car apart, I just wanted some bass to fill out the sound. Plus I need room for my golf clubs, etc.

I'm happy with my single 10" sub and box.

Powered by just a 250watt amp, does the job.

You might get more help in the audio forum too.

Haha, yep I'm a ricer. Don't worry...the exterior is sticker-free.

Yeah, cd changer. The little thing next to it is my old staff tag from the golf course I used to work at. I kept it there cause whenever I went to work, my clubs came with me, so it was a handy place...I just never took it out. Sentimental now I guess haha.

haha, never thought of that! My dad's a golf nut too, and I hope to take up golf later on when I'm all settled in at college. From what I heard, they have a nice course up there

any small ported or sealed box will do. For someone like myself, heck, even a 6-8" subwoofer in a ported box would do. I recommend a single 10 or single 8 in a sealed though.

Eh, someone else will suggest it so I might as well start. Are you sure about 1 10"? How about 2 10"s? I originally had 1 10" powered by a 250 watt amp. But over time, I just wanted a TAD more. I didn't want to get 12s because again, I don't want that mind-numbing bass but I wanted something better than 1 10". So I just bought another sub and bought a better amp and I couldn't be more happy with it. Also, I wanted to keep as much trunk space as possible because I use my trunk A LOT.

But hey, if you still insist on 1 10", I recommend an Alpine Type S or what schmmidy has. Both are good bargains. But in case you are curious about what I have and how much trunk space I have left, I'll show you a pic of my sub/amp setup.
