1998 Accord Transmission Problems
At 20K, my transmission while under warranty made some strange noises expecially when I would shift into reverse. The dealership where I bought the car agreed and replaced the transmission as per Honda Regional.
Well, my Accord has 56K and is out of warranty and it is making the same sounds. Has anyone else had their Honda Accord with a V-6 engine with automatic transmission replaced?

The V6 have had some tranny issues.
If you have documetation of the issue before Warranty expired and now have the same problem, mostly it is still covered since it is a re-occuring issue. As long as you have kept the documentation from the last round of repairs.

If I can remember correctly, my dealer told me that my car, 1998 Accord LX (I-4) is under powertrain warranty up 80k. you might wanna call up a few dealers and just ask them if you got powertrain warranty but don't let them know the problem, also have the VIN number handy cause they'll ask for it. you might have to call a few places cause some places will not tell you or will just transfer you back and forth.
what does the strange noise sound like? i kno, when some people reverse, there is ABSOLUTELY No noise, smooth... but i kno in my accord 98 2dr (I4)... i hear a rather big like "shifting" type noise, when i reverse, like a missle being set to be launched LOL. like a "chuK".... actually, its LOUD when i shift to reverse, not when i do anything else. and it started to happen pretty early, probably around 25 K. but honestly, i dont have tranny complaints beside that, no major problem.
Try calling Superior Honda in Cincinnati, Ohio. A buddy of mine had some work done their on his prelude. They claim to have had quite a few tranny issues related to Accords. You may want to call them if your dealer is no help.
I'm currently having even worse problems with my tranny. i drive a 1999 v6 Accord Sedan and i am such problems as delays in shifting (going from 1st to 2nd to 3rd) and harsh shifting...They are telling me 2 ECUs blew and it's going to be $5000 to replace the entire system....F*CK!!!!!!!!!!!!

$5000 grand!
That's 20% the value of your car! For that money just trade in on another car. Surely a new Accord plus trade in of yours will not set you back more then 5grand!!!!
I would file a complaint with Honda and look into litigation or something--that's BS.

I also had the transmission replaced in my 1999 V-6 Accord at 18,000 miles under warranty. When backing out of the garage the transmission would emit a loud clunk after about 20 feet [sometimes]. Both my salesman [who is an ex-service manager] and the dealership service manager told me that a disproportionate percentage of these V-6 AT's require service. Rather than open it up they were advised by factory service to simply replace it. Have had no problem with the replacement transmission.
Have owned 5 Accords and this is the second where I have had trouble with the AT. My '94 LX 4-door required a replacement transmission at about 20,000 miles because it downshifted momentarily into first [rather than second] after making "vigorous"right turns at intersections.
Honda is very good about fixing "out of warranty" items, expecially if the car has been serviced regularly by an authorized dealer and you can provide documentation.
