don't turn that screw...threxx is right. it's the base idle screw, which is calibrated at the factory and doesn't need to be changed. the idle is electronically controlled by the ECM. if it is idling high, there is a reason for it somewhere. could be as simple as a bad thermostat for the engine temp ECM reading...maybe MAP sensor...

mine idles at 700-750 once warmed up...i have a 5-speed so i can't give D4 rpms...

changing that screw will not confuse the ECM, since the ECM has an input for tach speed. what it will do is prevent the ECM from having a full range of adjustment control over your idle speed. the car comes with that screw set to a median point, at which point the ECM changes that point up and down depending on atmosphere, temperature, and fuel.

I was looking through some old posts, but I have a question. What if you 5th gen was ildling at only 500 RPMs and sometimes 400. All I have at this point for mods is intake and platinum NGK's. Seems to me that too low is dangerous, would give you proper oil pressure at idle. Any thoughts?

Default Low idle speed!!!!

I think I have the same problem. As I was reading thru the old posts. When my engine is warmed up, when I drive it is fine but when I get to a stop or a signal light, my RPM is at about 400 something like that. And you can feel a little vibration. I tried holding brake with one foot and giving it a little gas with the other just to 500 RPM and the small vibration goes away, untill I release the gas. Then it does the same thing. But when it is cold it idles on PARK at 1500 or so. So if any one knows how to fix this low RPM problem please let me know.

When it is low like 400 I release the brake pedal and it barely wants to move without me pressing the accelerator. That is why it bothers me.
Any help will be appreciated.

Sounds like you either have a vacuum problem or just simply need to adjust your idle speed.

The cold idle sounds normal. I just adjusted my idle this morning because the cold weather was making my car vibrate a bit at the usual idle of ~600 RPMs. Back up to 750-800 she'll go until it gets warm again

As always: do seafoam, change spark plugs (NGK V-Power), then adjust your idle.

My 1995 Accord used to idle at 1700 rpm, down to 800 when warmed up. I got it looked at by a local mechanic, he adjusted something (don't know what - sorry!), and it now idles at 1100 from start up. It only took 5 minutes, and there was no charge. Perhaps just take the car to a mechanic and hope it's nothing more serious?

So what's the problem with high idle besides obviously using more gas? i have a 5th gen cord' tbat idles around 1700 cold start. Is the high idle bad for car?
