What is a 4 cyl 5th gen supposed to idle at? Is it 1500 rpms? Thanks

 

mine idles at >1000

 

Mines 800 in park and 600 in D4

ya mine idles at around 800 too. You sure your car is warmed up yet? Cuz when you first start the car it does idle at around 1500, then goes down after the cars warmed up.

 

If already warmed up mine idles in park at about 600-700 rpms, and its about the same in d4 when sitting still.

 

Damn, most of you have a high idle. Mine idles between 600-800 when warmed up. I want to adjust it up to 800-1000 but anyone ever tried adjusting the idle? It's a pain:angry: The bolt you have to turn to change it has the looks of a flathead, but the slot on it is so shallow you can't get a good grip on it w/the screwdriver, not to mention there is some kind of wax seal over it to keep it in place.

 

Forgive me... I'm a lexus guy who has a g/f and a best friend with accords, so I don't know if what I'm saying is true, but if 5th gen Accords are like lexuses and have electronically controlled throttle-bodies (I believe my friend's 03 Accord does but I could be remembering wrong), then the reason it's so hard to turn is because what you're trying to adjust is called the idle screw and is not supposed to be turned... it's really just a backup mechanism to use as a last resort in place of adjusting the fuel map / idle control.

Basically your car's internal programming monitors many different things and determines the best idle for you. That screw is a manual override, but it tends to cause many more problems than it fixes simply because it confuses the computer. The computer will then think that it's setting your idle at xxx RPM when in reality you're idling xxx RPM higher.

 

yeah, i've tried to adjust my idle wit that screw... doesn't do crap. any suggestions other than following the haynes manual?
