Air Intakes
If there was an intake that passed smog (like AEM) and an intake that doesn't pass smog because it sucked in too much air, shit, i'd buy the one that didn't pass smog!
too bad it doesn't exist. generics are usually nearly as good as the name brands in performance. quality-wise is questionable due to workmanship.
I'm still waiting on the V2 for the AV6. argh. cant wait...

in some old-ass issue of SCC, they tested the AEM CAI with a generic filter on the end, instead of the real aem filter. they lost ~5hp with the generic filter inplace of the AEM filter. the AEM CAI filter has a special velocity stack to add more power compared to a generic filter
also keep in mind that those generic filters metal mesh filters are crap and probably don't filter well or hold up to. the special aem filters or K&N filters are of higher quality.
like mentioned before, fit, finish, mounting brackets, misc hose and clamps, and instructions are usually what generic stuff lacks.
i do agree you are paying a premium cause it says AEM, but it's still a higher quality unit. i mean seriuosly you paid more for a honda to get better quality, style, and the name not cause your 145hp motor was so much faster than it's competition, what's wrong with buying an intake for quality, name and looks.

CAI's traditionally don't deliver more than 10HP. The only exception I have seen with this is the AEM CAI on the RSX Type S which adds 20WHP.
The stock RSX intake system must be ridiculously restrictive.

Definitely sounds meaner with the growl, but I didn't notice much difference in power. Anyone knows how to get rid of the whistling on my AEM CAI. Seems to whistle at about 2300-2600 RPM. Don't know maybe normal.
