Default Clutchless Shifting

My friends been teachin me to shift w/o the clutch, i can get it from 3-4 and 4-5 at low rpm's. does this hurt the tranny? it seems harder to do at higher rpms.

it technically shouldnt if everything is done 100% correctly, but I doubt that it is, especially if you are saying that it seems hard. anyway its pretty pointless and I see no need to do it.

another quick way that hurts your car a lot less is leaving your foot on the gas and learning to shift WITH the clutch superfast so that it revs a little and slips in gear all in one motion....just shift normal.....rougher on a clutch though....

If you know what the difference in RPM's is between shifts for your car, you should be able to do it flawlessly... I can do it from 1st all the way to 5th w/o clutch... but like some of these ppl said... it's probably not too good on the clutch even if you do know what you are doing. The clutch is there for a reason, lol, makes shifting that much easier.

The best way that I know of to figure this out is to do this....

Say you are in 3rd gear... Try to keep you speed consistant... say 40 mph.. then shift to 4th gear. Look at how much your RPM's dropped... that is your difference between 3rd and 4th gear. For me it was about 1500 RPMs.

Here's a quick step by step.. lol

1. Drive 40 mph in 3rd gear.
2. Look at RPMs
3. Shift into 4th gear keeping your speed as close to 40 mph as possible.
4. Look at how much your RPM dropped. That is the difference.

Of course you'd want to try this in all gears, because not every gear has the same difference. Basic concept is to stay the same speed (whatever it may be) and shift into next gear and look how much RPMs dropped.

hope that makes sense...

you can also do this downshifting.. it's the same concept.. except now you'll have to make your RPMs go up.. not down..
