Default 1998 accord Ex NO DASH light after installing deck

i installed a pioneer deck in my accord ex coupe and i don't have any dash light and weather control knobs lights. everything else/ all lights are fine. i used a wiring harness to connect the pioneer deck. all the fuses are checked by professional and NO BLOWN fuses in both panels and in the engine compartment . However i put my stock radio back in to test it. Still same problem, no lights in dash and instrument panel.

I FORGOT TO DISCONNECT THE -VE while installing the deck

issues after installing the deck
1. no dash light what so ever while the headlight is on. completely dark.

2. only the odometer (very small digital panel on the bottom of the dash) lits up when parking switch is on, and EVERYTHING goes dark when the headlight is on. turn lights, hazard lights, other warning lights come up fine.

3. left side indicator clicking fast and very low power on the bulb. (changed the bulb and seems fine now)
4. check engine light came up after few hours of installthe the new deck. engine light went off right after i put the stock deck in !!!

please let me know if anyone is having the same problems from installing a deck.

thanks in advance.

p.s. All fuses are in working order.

hmmmmmmm....theres a small possibility that a back current may have fried your cluster's circuit board, i was putting led's into my cluster, and fried it....all the indicator lights, hazard's, high beam, brake, all that stuff worked cuz it's on a different circuit, but still the same fuse..
Double, then triple check your wiring from the pioneer deck to the quick connect harness that you got, by the sounds of it, somehow, a positive wire got grounded out, it happens...that's how i learned to allways dis-connect the battery,by making costly mistakes that pissed me off! New, used cluster for cd5, fifty bucks, your 98, no clue

On your deck's harness, check the illumination wire. I think its either orange or yellow. Most likely its grounded. If you did not connect that wire tape it off well so that it cant ground itself.

the first time when i tried to connect the deck, i wired the solid orange (dimmer) and the orange/wh (ill) wired together to the solid orange (ill) on my deck since there is no seperate dimm (orange/wh) on this deck. basically i connected all three wires together. what could i fry if i did that any idea? am really frustrated and these guy wanna charge me 80 bucks an hour to diagnose it. i wish i could know watz fried, so i could install it myself. however, i have taken out the deck now and the original stock deck directly plugged in, still the same freaking thing. i have read numerous forums that mentions its the driver side multiplexor or the dimmer switch circuit ! any clue?

i'm guessing since the aftermarket deck doesn't have a wire for a dimmer, there should be a setting on the deck for that purpose, just don't even connect the dimmer wire, just connect the illumination wire to the illum wire

And, you could prolly put in fifty more decks, and still have the exact same problem, damage has indeed been done.

Do the rest of the lights dim, a/c lights, all those heater selector lights, etc?? If those lights dim, then your dimmer circuit should still be intact,

Also, have you pulled your instrument cluster and checked to see if the bulbs are burnt out?

I wouldnt change the multiplex just yet. Start with the small stuff first. As mentioned earlier, disconnect the illum. wires and tape them off. Doublecheck fuses and replace the fuses w/known good ones. Next step would be to change the dimmer switch, THEN think about replacing the multiplex unit.

you blew out the driver's side multiplexer it's a common problem and what happens when you short out those dimmer wires they are orange and orange/white if one of those hit the ground kiss your multiplexer goodby as it's a solid state dimmer and cannot handle very much current that why the odometer and clock lights work fine with the lights off but when you switch on the parking lights it commands them to dim that when they black out...just remember if trying to get a used one they have to be from the a 98-99 Ex and 2 or 4 door matters too.

i took the dash cluster out. is there any way i can check if the dimmer switch circuit is bad ? no smell, no burnt sign, so far. do i need a multimeter? which i don't have. all i have is a fuse tester/ circuit tester.
