hmmmmmmm....theres a small possibility that a back current may have fried your cluster's circuit board, i was putting led's into my cluster, and fried it....all the indicator lights, hazard's, high beam, brake, all that stuff worked cuz it's on a different circuit, but still the same fuse..
Double, then triple check your wiring from the pioneer deck to the quick connect harness that you got, by the sounds of it, somehow, a positive wire got grounded out, it happens...that's how i learned to allways dis-connect the battery,by making costly mistakes that pissed me off! New, used cluster for cd5, fifty bucks, your 98, no clue
