Default low profiles with 15" rim

I was wondering if any of you run a 50 series tire on your accord with a 15 inch rim? I want to get kumho 205/50/15, but the guy at tire rack says they don't meet the weight capacity for my car, but i've been running the 205/55/15 with no problem for 30,000 miles and there capacity is only 50 pounds more than the 50 series. Anyway the 50 series max capacity per tire is 1168 pounds, I know the 4 cyl accord weighs around 3,000 pounds, but how much of the weight rests on the front tires? I'm seriously doubting the front carrys 2/3s of the total weight.

Good question. A 50-series profile tire is pretty small when the width is only 205mm. I'd say the guy at the TireRack is correct. If you want to go with a lower profile tire, you ought to look at going with a 16" wheel.

i got 205/55/15 and it's nice. But 50 might look goofy and be unsafe

265/35/ZR15

BTW, you wanna have correct sizes for your tires. Otherwise, your odometer and speedometer will be inaccurate, and will mess up your top speed in each gear. You're probably looking at somewhere around 205/60/15. If you wanna go plus size, get a 16" rim and go 215/55/16. 17's have something like 225/50/17. That's for a 6th gen (98-02), I dunno what you have.

The speedometer and odometer can be reset easily to fix that problem. Also, if he's currently running 205/55R-15, the best 16" size would be 215/45R-16, and then for 17" 225/35R-17, etc in order to keep the aspect ratio. But as mentioned, those are a bit unrealsitic....35 series profile is very low for a 225.

Summary: Get an appropriately sized tire, even if it's not a "plus size" (something like 215/45R-16, as mentioned, is good) and reset the ECU.

While he's running 205/55's now, we dunno what his stock tire size is. That's what I'm saying. And since when is having your speedometer calibrated easy? Where do you go?

My stock size is 195/60/15 I was runnign 195/55/15 for a while with no problems.

Here is a Tire Size Calculator that may help some.

IMO running 55's was fine for me. it gave me a little more wheel well space but I havent droped my car yet eaither.

I am back to 60's cuz they were given to me and I needed tires.

I am planning on going back to 55's if I stay with my 15 in wheels or I'll go to 50's if I go to 16's.

You can use 205 50s, but the wheel gap will get bigger and look dumb. It'll also throw the speedo off a noticeable amount. As far as weight capacity, I don't think that is a big problem. Just stick with 205 55s and you'll be fine.

I would only reccomend a 205 50 in a drag radial or something that will be not used on the street alot.

And with that my friends, Chris has stated his point so very eloquently that it leaves everybody speechless.
