BTW, you wanna have correct sizes for your tires. Otherwise, your odometer and speedometer will be inaccurate, and will mess up your top speed in each gear. You're probably looking at somewhere around 205/60/15. If you wanna go plus size, get a 16" rim and go 215/55/16. 17's have something like 225/50/17. That's for a 6th gen (98-02), I dunno what you have.
The speedometer and odometer can be reset easily to fix that problem. Also, if he's currently running 205/55R-15, the best 16" size would be 215/45R-16, and then for 17" 225/35R-17, etc in order to keep the aspect ratio. But as mentioned, those are a bit unrealsitic....35 series profile is very low for a 225.

Summary: Get an appropriately sized tire, even if it's not a "plus size" (something like 215/45R-16, as mentioned, is good) and reset the ECU.
