Default code 1457 evap

i had a CEL, took the car in and it was code 1457. the guy there said he tested it and the evap purge valve was bad.

I just got one at the JY. installed it. and just for s&g I tested the old one with a 12v battery. to my suprise it clicks just fine!?!?!

am I missing something? I'll have to drive it for a few days hopefully the CEL doesnt come back on with this other valve, for whatever reason

im confused

Is the 1457 fuel tank side or canister side i cant remember(i don't want to look it up).It must be purge side if he replaced the purge hu.I have never seen purge valves go bad.Vacuum test it see if it hold vac.

I have seen cvs bad and bypass go bad both would trow a canister side code.IF it was tank side a loose cap can cause that or a hole in the tank or orvr leak.I have also seen a lot of under side damage punching holes in the canister.

If worse comes to worse smoke test it and see if it has any external leaks.

The code will take a wile to come back on if their is a problem it is a 2 trip code. The enabled criteria is cold and a fresh start up + a lot more.

it just doesnt make any sense that when I tested it it seems to work, unless if he used some other method?

It might click but it might not hold vac. That would be a failing purge.Do you have a vac pump.(not recommended use you mouth i have done this in the past some times tools are not available and time is money.Taste like gas).LOL.

A leaking cvs, bypass, and a hole in the canister will give the same code.

Give it 4-5 cold morning start ups to tell.

im crossing my fingers lol

im kinda suprised it would throw a code if the valve didnt hold vacuum. i would of thought it could only detect a fault in the solenoid itself (if it wasnt able to open at all) instead of something more specific like that

obd2.. amazing lol

It detects leaks. It has a fuel tank psi sender. If it sees a leak it will pick it up and it could be a pin hole as small as .040 of an inch.I deal with these codes all the time thy are a pain in the ass.
