Is the 1457 fuel tank side or canister side i cant remember(i don't want to look it up).It must be purge side if he replaced the purge hu.I have never seen purge valves go bad.Vacuum test it see if it hold vac.

I have seen cvs bad and bypass go bad both would trow a canister side code.IF it was tank side a loose cap can cause that or a hole in the tank or orvr leak.I have also seen a lot of under side damage punching holes in the canister.

If worse comes to worse smoke test it and see if it has any external leaks.

The code will take a wile to come back on if their is a problem it is a 2 trip code.The enabled criteria is cold and a fresh start up + a lot more.
