Default A few HID questions

I had some beat up Audi S4 headlights laying around so I decided to strip em of the bulbs and ballasts. The OEM Audi stuff (Hella ballast and Philips D2S bulb) works pretty good for 9006 conversions, almost a plug and play. I'll do a write-up with pics later today.

Anyway, what I'm wondering is if anyone has done an HID conversion with out using relays to power the ballasts. The 9006 plug plugs right into the Audi ballast and I'm half tempted to just plug it in and not relay it. Think its a good idea? :dunno:

I didn't put the headlights into the car yet cause its at the body shop, but I took a couple pics of them in my garage with the lights out.

Halogens:

HIDs:

Both pics are of the passengers light, all camera settings were tha same, both headlamps were shined against the same wall 15feet away.. The only difference between the two is HID, amazing... To give you an idea of picture size, in the HID pic you can see a stack of 4 wheels, they are 17x7.5 in Polarises.

If anyone is interested I can get Matsu****a ballasts & ignitors with Osram D2R bulbs for $350

May God show mercy to those you blind on the road. I don't know what amazes me more: your ignorance on how f'd up that pattern is, or your carelessness to everyone around you.

I don't mean to be a dick about this but your car is/will be a serious hazard.

That headlight isn't in the car, it was just sitting on the bench, crooked might I add. Don't worry, when installed I'll adjust them properly

unless you're telling me that bulb isn't seated fully (which wouldn't because it's about 5mm's too short from the focal point). you cannot adjust that glare. but you're more than welcomed to try.

The HID capsule sits exactly where the 9006 filament sat. I cut up the base of the D2S bulb to make it work. Granted, the headlight optics aren't designed for HID, the glare isn't gonna be bad at all when adjusted. I've put HID in many different DOT spec headlights with very little glare problems.

you'll have glare... trust me... no matter where the arc sits in relation to the filament placement, you'll have glare.

You wont need a relay for the HID's, there is already one for the stock headlights... and you'll know if they are too much cause they will blow the fuses on start up... once the bulb is ignited, they only draw about 2-3 amps.
