Default Cracked Oil Pan and Check Engine light

Im kinda new to the site and looking for some help. Heres the story:

I drove my lowered 99 Accord V6 overs some sewer thing and ended up cracking my oil pan so the oil is leaking out slowly. Repair shops are trying to charge me 300-450 to repair. I just plan on draining the oil, grind it, and use some JB Weld to fix that problem. My bigger problem is that before the I new the pan was cracked, all the oil drained to a dangerously low level and the CHECK ENGINE light and LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON. I immediately put a temporary patch and refilled the oil. My CHECK ENGINE LIGHT is still on and I got code P1259(VTEC System Malfunction). Im looking to see how I can determine If the i actually damaged something on the VTEC system when i hit the sewer or was the CHECK ENGINE light just triggered when the oil reached a really low level. Help Please.

The VTEC system works off oil pressure so running the car out of oil would certainly prevent it from functioning properly. The components are pretty much out of the way of obstacles so it's unlikely you damaged anything driving over the sewer lid.

Dumb question, but were you at 7000 RPM and full throttle when the light cam on or were you at low RPM and light throttle?? How far did you drive it with the "low oil pressure" light on??

Oh, that light basically means you have NO oil pressure.

How low is your car?? Stock is ~5.5" of ground clearance. If you're not slammed to the ground with a 3.5" drop you may have an insurance claim with the highway/construction company responsible for the protruding obstacle in the roadway

try re-setting your ECM and see if the Check Engine Light comes back on. Just disconnect the negitive battery terminal for about 30seconds and then start the car.

low oil psi isnt anything to mess around with. replace the pan so u r not nickle and diming yourself to death with patches and chasing related issues. im not familiar with your exhaust system but there maybe a crossover support with the oil pan and u may have damaged it also.

I reset the ECU and drove it work today(15 miles each way). The light did not come back on today and the car seemed to be driving fine. Besides putting the car on a lift, is there any way to check if i damaged something on the exhaust system since the exhaust runs right next to the oil pan??? Also, Is JB WELDING really that bad of an idea, because I have read some postings by people on some other sites that have said it has worked fine as long as you do it right.

Uh...I've ran over some really nasty shit but have only dinged my downpipe and the frame rails. How did you do this?

Please don't tell me you're driving your car around with a 'temporary fix' on your oil pan

I dont know about Syracuse but New York City has some of the worst roadways in the country I think and thats where I happen to do the majority of my driving.

As for the temporary fix, I do have a temporary fix right now until I can get a better fix(probably this weekend) but I am making sure that it has enought oil at all times(couple quarts in my trunk). Any problems with that????

It has it's place... but not anywhere that important to the life of the engine and nowhere with that much oil and heat.
