Default labor charge: '94 Accord Front brakes?

with the crazy design of the '94-97 front brake jobs are a bear due to where the rotor is placed. Approx how many hours in labor should a garage charge me for job? We live in rip-off land... Northern NJ. This is my daughter's car and we have the new rotors & pads.

I can't say that should be more than an hour's worth of work for any experienced shop. Since they're all unionized, there is a fixed time frame in a book that says how long the job should be.

Since you have the parts, I'd have to say that $100 to $130 should be right for the job. (@ $65 per hour rate)

You might also be aware of the fact that most places (that I know of) don't like to install customer's parts due to liability issues if they fail. They prefer their own vendors parts due to the ease of dealing with returns of defective parts, etc.

we found a few mechanics who said they would install w/our parts... we upgraded to Brembo Rotors so bought them on our own. Issue w/the Rotors being behind the hub, this is not an easy job like most brake jobs w/this specific design for mid-90's Accords. I was told by others possibly 2-3 hours... sound right??? definitely much more than 1 hour

all you need to do is:

remove a wheel
undo the caliper
remove the rotor
replace the rotor
slip in new pads into the caliper
lock down the caliper
put back on the wheel

with the right tools, it can't be more than 30 minutes a wheel.

but like i said, there is a book on how long this should take ... most shops go off of "the book" when giving quotes. @ $65 an hour, expect to pay about $100 to $130 like stated above. *pending if they round up on the half or full hours*

I wish, but I don't think so...

the rotor is behind the hub on 94-97 Accords. Other years... yeah 1 hour max. But not this era unfortunately. And also, don't quote prices... just hourly. labor rates vary all over the country. In Northern NJ, $75-85 is about avg for local garages and dealers are about $95-100.

a 94 accord definitely will not take 30 minutes. try about 1-2 hours a wheel if you do it yourself without air tools. it took me 2 days to complete a rotor job on the front end of mine. there arent alot of steps, but just doing them is going to take alot of time, and alot of hard work. i had to hammer and chisel each bolt holding the rotor on, then replace them. it wasnt no half hour job...

Just changed my front rotors today, as well as lower ball joints and driver side CV-shaft... took about 4 hours in all, of course I took my time.
