Default Intake for 99 Accord V6 Auto

Hi,
I have an automatic 99 accord V6. I hear that being there's lack of room, I can only put in a short air intake. Having said that, I hear it's pointless to do that because there's very little performance boost from that kind of upgrade.
Is that true?
THanks.

a solid short ram will only get you on avg 3 to 5hp gains for about $200

A short ram should not cost $200, it's more like $100. $200 is for the cold air intakes. You're not just limited to SRI's either. You can buy a CAI for the V6's. I prefer a CAI with a bypass valve to avoid hydrolock. I had an SRI but driving in bumper to bumper traffic in the middle of summer with an SRI really bogged my engine down due to the hot air it was sucking in. Once I got going it was fine but my CAI is not affected by summer time rush hour traffic. Check out this website if you want some dyno proven gains from various bolt ons. Of course this is for the I4 not V6 but still comparable.

Resonance length on a CAI is wrong for thr J30A1. The SRI more closely matches the OEM engineered length.

Does that mean it'll just sound different? I can't see how performance would really be affected. One thing's for sure, my F23 performs much better with a CAI than it ever did with an SRI. The J30 probably has enough torque as is so an SRI would not affect it the same as it does on the F23.

No.

Ever close the faucet on the sink of an old house, and the water in the pipes goes 'BANG BANG BANG'? That's called the 'water hammer effect'. Same effect in engines, but it's referred to as 'resonance length'. If the distance (or more accurately, the volumetric flow rate of air) between the cone air filter and the intake valves isn't just right, you get air piling up behind the intake valves and creating excess turbulence instead of smooth air intake. Get it? That's why SRIs in the J30A1 gain power power than CAIs. The temperature difference is negligable.

OK, that makes sense and all but even though you gain power up top you still lose a little torque down low with the SRI but the V6 has enough torque to begin with so you don't notice it. My little 4 banger has so little torque that even the slightest drop in torque is noticable.

But with the SRI you both gain torque down low and gain HP at the top end because it can breathe better. And the J30A1 really doesn't have that much torque.

People with the J30A1 consistently the 1/4 mile .2-.4 seconds quicker with only an SRI but stock or slightly slower than stock (assuming it's 15.9-16.0) with a CAI of any kind.

Wow!! This is too much techno babble for me.

So you think AEM SRI will help? What about any special tool or sawing I should do to have it installed?

Thanks by the way for the suggestion.
