Ever close the faucet on the sink of an old house, and the water in the pipes goes 'BANG BANG BANG'? That's called the 'water hammer effect'. Same effect in engines, but it's referred to as 'resonance length'. If the distance (or more accurately, the volumetric flow rate of air) between the cone air filter and the intake valves isn't just right, you get air piling up behind the intake valves and creating excess turbulence instead of smooth air intake. Get it? That's why SRIs in the J30A1 gain power power than CAIs. The temperature difference is negligable.
