I don't cover anything, I just direct light streams of water where need be and scrub with a tooth brush as needed. And quick detailer as needed. Then don't ever drive your car in the rain and stuff stays clean
i stuck my ballasts a foot behind my headlight assemblies, kinda where the fenders are. then again mines a 7th gen and i dont know if you have the same amount of space. and to secure it i rubbed down the surface w/ some rubbing alcohol and used some tough double-sided tape. no problems thus far.
