Yeah, its kind of a *****... most aftermarket speakers have relatively large magnets and require some cutting to make them fit. The plastic basket on the mounting plate can be cut off... just make sure the magnets arent soo huge that the window hits them when it goes down.
To save some hassle, you may want to put 5.25's in the front...
I have 6.5" Boston Rally components up front, but I mounted the woofer with a 1" thick MDF baffle, instead of the plastic piece.

I put a Focal 6.5 speaker in my door, only had to use a 3/4 inch MDF mounting ring. I have a 3 1/4 and tweeter in kick panels. I went so far as to relocate my fuse box up under the dash so i could mount the speakers on the drivers side. I have issues
I have 6.5" Infinity Kappa 62.3i coaxils up front. Had to cut the plastic basket (see ''Complete Audio Install'' on my webpage for pics).
I think I might try and get some DEI Components in the future. Damn leg blocks the speaker, so I need some tweetahs.

My solution to the depth problem was to go with Kenwood DualMags. They are sweet as hell. Looking at them, they look like coaxial speakers, but technically they are components because the tweeter sits on its own axis totally separate from the woofer cone. The tweeter does not in any way inhibit the movements of the woofer and not only that, the tweeter and woofer can be powered separately just like a component set. The magnet is tiny on the backside of the speaker but don't let that fool you, these speakers are nice and don't lack in sound quality a bit. No baffles to play with, no plastic pieces to cut on, simplicity at its best.
i got polk audio 6.5inch components in front, it didn't fit in the whole from old speakers..they're not 6.5...., anyway i just made them fit in the plastic holster thing., in rear i have infinity 6x9's, the cage and is way to big to fit through the support where the old speaker fit, so i bought some boxes and sat them up on the bakc support
i got mb quart rsc 216. I was lazy and didn't use a baffle, just screwed it on to the platic one with the longer screws from mb quart. yea, it's ghetto, but i was lazy and it works fine. I was scared that it wouldn't fit, but it did. WHEW!
Im getting some infinity reference 605cs components real soon. By baffle do you mean this thing? :http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...2&I=237XT65+++
How would you get the wires to the speaker?
