I can see this is where a PRELUDE owner should come in and say something for one of his own...
First of I dunno what you mean for a chip in a prelude. Since there is no such thing as a chip. In order to get something done to ECU....you have to replace the whole entire thing.
On the case of 5spd vs SS (SportShift) is pretty much clear. 5spd will always be faster then any auto ...(unless its the BMW SMG tranny ...then you will win) but getting back to the topic, I have 2001 SS lude (long story on that) I'm in a all prelude club, we have a few autos and a bunch of 5 spds. Yes the auto is much slower then a 5spd. I mean i can loose a race right of the line by about 3 car lengths. The reason for that is the weak tranny that we have and the fact that we have no torque.
To your question about V6 vs Auto Prelude.... well tell you the truth i never been in a race against one. But i do know that we have more then you guys on top end. As far as 1/4 time stock vs stock on both cars its pretty much the same. Dont forget preludes are very heavy cars they are not really designed for brute power only handling. If you friend knows how to stay in vtec in all 4 gears then I would say you might be very close and he might win by a foot...meaning you'll be side to side but he will be slightly ahead. If he had slightly more mods then he would take you no problem.

But as is ... i say he will be waving this flag to you wned:

But we are all Hondas so  to all.

Just to correct you it is the Accord V6 that has greater top end then your prelude if you are an auto. Most freeway races favor the V6(Torque) over the Prelude, Si, GSR and so on. My friend in his 5spd lude will lose to me in my Accord V6 if we race from 80mph-115mph. 3rd is a great gear!

ummm...with 100-300 dollars to work with on performance mods you could possibly get some Denso Iridium spark plugs, they supposedly add 2-5% on acceleration...they run about 50 bucks for a set of 4 though....umm, maybe some NOLOGY spark wires - they've been known to add HP, they're 150.00....and lastly, maybe get a high flow catalytic converter or just get a test pipe put on (straight pipe where the cat is supposed to go, just don't get caught....i don't know if you have emissions testing or not?).....that's all i can think of.....that will all come out to about 300.00....

AV6 will walk all over the sissy stick lude.

im runnin a 100 plus pound system in the trunk, with only intake and exhaust. walks all over the ss lude.

for example: me 2k1 AV6 with AEM CAI/Tanabe Hypermedalion vs 01 SS lude with intake/header/exhaust/pulley. i can pull at least 2 car length in roughly 1/4 mile, or to roughly 80-90mph from stop.

the lude was by himself, i had 2 passengers and a system.

granted the lude didnt stay in vtec through all the gears, but you should still walk all over him.

just wanted to throw my 2 cents at this topic...

yestreday i raced my friend with 99 lude ss aem cai and dunk catback...i have 99 accord coupe 4cyl 5spd with aem cai, dc 4-2-1 ss header, custom 2.5 dual exhaust (obx ) and vafc...

with vafc at -7% at wot, we raced...

here's what happened:

i take 1.5-2 car length at start due to my car being 5spd and his car auto...i keep that lead through out the 1st and 2nd gear...i switch to 3rd and i'm at 5500 rpm and i hear him gain on my ass real fast and passes me...eventually at around 85-90 mph, he ends up one car length ahead of me...

he ran 15.8 or 15.9 at the track...he has 17" konig rhythms and i have 18" velox novas...

man, prelude has such a sweet 3rd gear...i think accords have sweet 1st and 2nd, but 3rd definitely leaves something to be desired...

if you have v6, then you should go for that $20 against auto lude...

but for 5spd h22a powered ludes, man...that's a whole different story!

He obviously couldnt drive then, it doesnt make sense that a 200 hp auto vs a 200 hp lighter 5 speed can lose.

I agree.

I drove a lot of AV6's when I was looking for my accord (ended up with a 5spd I-4 ex coupe)

They are not slow, but are nothing compared to a manual 'lude. Accords are just too damn heavy.

My girl own's a stock 5spd 2000 'lude. That car is so damn fast.. waaaay faster than any accord I have driven. I hate going places with her because her car absoultely eats mine for breakfast. She lets me drive it alot tho, its fun.. I definatly get the feeling like I could race anyone.

I have never driven an auto prelude.. what a waste of a car.
